Rowena Lane Garden Design

The garden is long and appeared narrower because of a wide, raised boundary of indeterminate planting on the south side shielding the best views across the fields. There was also a sunken paved area, various sheds, pond in poor condition and sharply sloping rough area at the bottom.

The requirement was for a country garden that sat well in its rural setting, felt spacious and maximized the views.

The site was cleared, recycling large amounts of existing, useful plant material. Soil from the raised boundary was used to level the site, extending the garden to its maximum width.

Prairie, mixed shrub and herbaceous boarders along with curved lawns were laid out inviting exploration of the
garden down to a new wild flower meadow and orchard.
